There is plenty to see, do and experience in the area surrounding our B&B. A visit to Pörtschach and a boat trip on the Wörthersee are of course a must, but Velden, Klagenfurt, Burg Leonstein, Blumeninsel and Maria Wörth are also well worth a visit!
Pörtschach, a cozy village on Lake Wörthersee
Pension Kitty is located in Pörtschach, a small but cozy village within walking distance of the Wörthersee – the largest mountain lake in Carinthia. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, Pörtschach in Carinthia is not only a great holiday destination in the summer; the temperature here is also lovely in spring and autumn. The meadows and trees in this southern part of Austria are greener and the lakes warmer than in other parts of the country. In the summer months, the water temperature in the Wörthersee even fluctuates around 25 degrees, wonderful for swimming!
The beach and the center within walking distance
B&B Pension Kitty is just a two-minute walk from the Wörthersee. There you will also find the freely accessible swimming area 'Edelweiss' where you can enjoy the sun on the beach. If you would like to do something active, there are many water sports available. Think of sailing, rowing or SUP. You can rent a boat in the village; SUP boards can be rented from us.
The centre of Pörtschach is also within walking distance: from Pension Kitty you can get there in 10 minutes. There are many good restaurants in different price ranges; from typical Austrian to Italian, Thai, Indian and Mediterranean for example. You will also find many beautiful examples of the so-called Wörthersee Architektur: monumental villas that were built at the end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th century by wealthy residents of Vienna. Villa Seeblick and Villa Miralago in particular, both from 1895 and with an elegant boathouse, are beautiful to see. The Werzerbad, a former wooden bathhouse on the shore of the lake, also dates from that time. At that time you could swim there in natural water, now it has a modern swimming pool and a restaurant.
